LIFT: 2011 BET Awards

L.I.F.T = Looks I’m Feeling Today!!
I really enjoyed watching the 2011 BET Awards last night. The host, Kevin Hart, was too funny. It kinda hurt laughing so hard. The “Real Husbands of Hollywood” parody sketch were simply hilarious. I also watched the pre-award show and it was nice seeing the all the Nominees for Best International Act (Africa). But I was even more excited that 2Face Idibia and D’ Banj were the big winners of that category. The highlight of the show for me, were the performances by Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle. So, on to the the important stuff 🙂

As for the fashions and makeup looks, ummmm, I wasn’t really wowed, but I did like Tracee Ellis Ross and Kelly Rowland’s looks.  I also liked Eve’s hairstyle at the pre-award show performance.

Kelly Rowland's Makeup is totally on point!

I love her pink dress. She looks amazing!

Tracee Ellis Ross...I love her shoes

Eve's hairstyle was the business

I thought D'Banj looked great

LIFT: Oscars 2011 Edition

L.I.F.T = Looks I’m Feeling Today!!

I love watching award shows. I am always curious as to how trends (be it makeup or fashion trends) are translated by the actors, musicians, industry “people” and their stylists and makeup artists.

Yesterday was no different, as I tuned in to watch the the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Of course, the red carpet looks did not disappoint.

Below are my favorite looks from last night:

Camila Alves (the mother of Matthew McConaughey’s children) was my standout person of the night. I loved her whole look. Simplicity at it’s best!!!

Jennifer Hudson looked radiant in this tangerine Atelier Versace gown. Again, as with the Grammys, her makeup looked great.

Last but not least, I had to mention Halle Berry. I thought she looked Angelic 😉 in this dress below. I loved her whole look.

LIFT: Pre-Grammy Edition 2011

L.I.F.T = Look I’m Feeling Today!!

I’m getting ready to watch the Grammys, but I wanted to share these images I came across today (from the Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons Honoring David Geffen). The Gala took place last night and Jennifer Hudson was on FIRE!!! She looks amazing in that dress. Her makeup is on point! I am feeling her whole look.

Jennifer Hudson at the 2011 Pre- Grammy Gala...I love her makeup

To create this look, I would use MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow on the lid and MAC Bronze eyeshadow in the crease, with a black liquid liner and false lashes. For the lips, I would use MAC Lady bug lipstick.

Jennifer Hudson...I love her dress.

I really think Miley Cyrus stood out as well. Her makeup was natural but very flattering.

I also loved seeing Brandy and Monica together. They both looked great! Remember the song “The Boy is Mine”?

My 2010 VMA’s Beauty Review!

I watched the MTV Video Music Awards last night and it was …. ok. Nothing really special, but I did have a few thoughts about the award show:

  • I loved the performance by Drake, Mary J Blige and Swiss Beatz. “Fancy” is one of my favorite songs of the moment (“Nail done, hair done, every thing done”…What better anthem for a beauty lover, lol). They had great chemistry.
  • Lady Gaga is too much!!!
  • Taylor… really? The song was cute though.

These are the ladies whose makeup looks I loved:

Ciara... I love her look... from head to toe!

Eva Marcille...Her face looks FLAWLESS!!!

Evan Rachel Wood of True Blood Fame... I just love how her skin glows in this image

Did you watch the show last night? What did you think of the show?  Who was your “stand out” person of the night?

My 2010 Oscars Review!!

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards took place last night and I enjoyed the show. When I first saw Zoe Saldana on the red carpet… I gasped, because the bodice of her dress was breathtaking and I instantly fell in love. I thought she would be my standout person of the night. But as the camera began to travel down her dress, I realized I didn’t like the bodice of her dress paired with the ruffles at the bottom of her dress.

With that being said, below are all the ladies whose dresses made me look twice:

Vera Farmiga... Her dress was stunning!!

Queen Latifah...She was glowing, and you know how I feel about Pink, lol

Anika Noni Rose.. I really loved the top of her dress.

Elizabeth Banks...this picture doesn't do the dress any justice. I loved it!

Zoe Saldana... Loved the bodice, but didn't like the top half of her skirt.

My Other Thoughts:

  • I loved that Christoph Waltz won for Best Supporting Actor. He was soo funny (yet soo evil) in “Inglourious Basterds”.
  • Mo’Nique winning the best performance by an actress in a supporting role for “Precious” was my proudest moment.  Although, I didn’t agree with the first part of her acceptance speech… but overall, I was very proud of her. She deserved it!
  • Steven Martin and Alec Baldwin were hilarious as the hosts for the night.
  • I was surprised “Avatar” was not nominated in the Best Makeup Category.

What did you guys think of the show last night?

PINK at The 2010 Grammy’s

Who watched the Grammy’s last night? I did and I enjoyed it. My personal “stand out” person of the night was PINK. I loved everything about her look. Her DRESS, makeup, hair…and last but not least I loved her captivating performance.
