LIFT: 2011 BET Awards

L.I.F.T = Looks I’m Feeling Today!!
I really enjoyed watching the 2011 BET Awards last night. The host, Kevin Hart, was too funny. It kinda hurt laughing so hard. The “Real Husbands of Hollywood” parody sketch were simply hilarious. I also watched the pre-award show and it was nice seeing the all the Nominees for Best International Act (Africa). But I was even more excited that 2Face Idibia and D’ Banj were the big winners of that category. The highlight of the show for me, were the performances by Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle. So, on to the the important stuff 🙂

As for the fashions and makeup looks, ummmm, I wasn’t really wowed, but I did like Tracee Ellis Ross and Kelly Rowland’s looks.  I also liked Eve’s hairstyle at the pre-award show performance.

Kelly Rowland's Makeup is totally on point!

I love her pink dress. She looks amazing!

My ChaCha’s Wedding

One of my favorite cousins, Yetsa and her boo, Sly, got married a couple of weekends ago. Now, I have been to a million weddings (well, maybe only a thousand, lol) and I have to say, her wedding is hands down one of the most fun weddings I have ever attended. It was like a family reunion, I also met some fantastic people and of course we all danced our hearts out, lol. The whole weekend was simply perfect. Yetsa has been so supportive of my Makeup Artistry Business and this blog. She is truly an amazing soul. I was honored to provide makeup services for the bride and her bridesmaids. Below are pictures of the Bridal Party:

LIFT: The Royal Wedding 2011

L.I.F.T = Look I’m Feeling Today!!
Everyone is talking about it…the Royal wedding. Weddings like this only come around once in a while, so I made sure I had my eyes out for the “Fashions” of the day.

Most of the guests came correct with very classy and timeless looks. This might seem weird, but out of all the fashion looks this morning, I was most looking forward to seeing what Victoria Beckham would wear to the Royal wedding. She did not disappoint. Her hat was stunning and even with her pregnancy, she was rocked those 6 inch Christian Louboutin heels like a CHAMP!

Princess Beatrice of York (the daughter of  Sarah, Duchess of York) also turned it out. Her headgear, which was created by Milliner Philip Treacy, was beautiful. I love bows, so the bigger the better. As for her makeup, I liked her smokey eye and nude-ish pink lips. I also loved her dress at the pre-wedding party the night before.

LIFT: Oscars 2011 Edition

L.I.F.T = Looks I’m Feeling Today!!

I love watching award shows. I am always curious as to how trends (be it makeup or fashion trends) are translated by the actors, musicians, industry “people” and their stylists and makeup artists.

Yesterday was no different, as I tuned in to watch the the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Of course, the red carpet looks did not disappoint.

Below are my favorite looks from last night:

Camila Alves (the mother of Matthew McConaughey’s children) was my standout person of the night. I loved her whole look. Simplicity at it’s best!!!

Jennifer Hudson looked radiant in this tangerine Atelier Versace gown. Again, as with the Grammys, her makeup looked great.

Last but not least, I had to mention Halle Berry. I thought she looked Angelic 😉 in this dress below. I loved her whole look.

My 2011 Grammy Review

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!!! I wish you a great time loving yourself and your loved ones.

So on to the Grammys. The show was all kinds of boring, but looking at the positives, this is what I observed:

  • The tribute to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin was nice.
  • Then, I was bored through most of the show, until Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow and Muppets came on the stage. The performance was very colorful. His outfit was crazy, the muppets were so cute and Gwyneth looked great! I loved it.
  • I also enjoyed the short tribute to Dolly Parton (by Norah Jones, Keith Urban and John Mayer). They performed “Jolene” which is one of my favorite songs by Dolly. I love me some Dolly…she is as real as they come.
  • Talking about John Mayer, did he look like Johnny Depp last night, or was it just me?
  • Last but not least the performance with Rihanna and Drake was great. I love Reggae, so the “breakdown” in the performance was refreshing.
On to the “Fashions”…My stand out person of the might was Monica. She looked elegant and very pulled together. As always, her makeup was on point!

My honorable mention is Eva Longoria. Something about her whole look really catered to me. Her makeup was clean and her hair nicely styled.

Where Music and Beauty Meet…

When I picked up Keri Hilson’s album, “No Boys Allowed” in December, I was really just attracted to the album cover art. She is smoking a Hot Pink lipstick on the cover and her nails are BADDDDD.

I was in love right away, because I had actually wanted to create a look centering around a lady smoking a lipstick for a while. But listening to her album was the icing on top. I love the song called “BAHM BAHM” but my favorite song on the album is “Pretty Girl Rock”.  Check out the video below if you haven’t already. How hot is it, that she is paying tribute to talented female entertainers before her. The ladies she portrays appear in this order: Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, Diana Ross and The Supremes,  Donna Summers and the group TLC.

Random Information: Doesn’t she kind look like Tia Mowry (who plays Melanie Barnett on the BET show THE GAME) at certain times in this video?
